Making Films for New Arrivals
The New Young Peers group have set themselves the aim to make films that can help other newly arrived young people with the process of making a home in Scotland. Based on their own experiences, there are key things they want to communicate. The importance of making friends; of relaxing; of finding something that makes you happy: going to the park, walking by the river in the summer, playing football with friends; The importance of finding the right support organisation; handling public transport and the weather; and of course of knowing your legal rights and taking advantage of educational opportunities.
One Key Message
Most importantly, they wanted to let other young people know that they are not alone, but that there are other people like them in the city (and in Scotland). What films will we make to communicate young people’s advice best? How can we best harness the medium’s visual form and capacity for immediacy? How can we most meaningfully connect to newly arrived young people through film?
